GRADIENT REVOLUTION KIT
Gradient Revolution Information The GRADIENT REVOLUTION was a re-thinking of a full range speaker that would provide a natural presentation of a stereo image with a natural sounding bass. It was an design that more than 20 years later is not surpassed for a regular sized living or stereo room. The twin open baffle woofers provide a natural sound that can be rotated as need be to provide best results in a home environment before the popularity of extra twin woofers for extended low bass. The upper head assembly midrange provides a controlled dispersion with the SEAS tweeter in the center. While the latest version 5 passive version has arrived, the original wood cabinet allowed the base assembly to be front facing, or to the left or right rear corner-three different facing of the base assembly. This kit was designed for Version one and has been used with the later upgraded woofers. Since the bass assembly is only a frame, it does not have the same problems as a box speaker with cabinet vibration. Because of its unique construction, in 2008, after several trials, a kit was designed to make the best of the lower frame design to enhance the naturalness of the open baffle reproduction frame. In additon, for the greatest clarity at concert level playback, the vibrations from the base assembly were reduced to guarantee clarity to the midrange. This sound kit can be implemented easily and removed if the user does not like the desired result. The kit consists of four shrink assemblys , two for the head assembly and two for the base assembly. One base assembly also has a 6 mm tap to insure there is no damage to the brass threads of the feet. This was specially done by Star Sound Technologies. There are three std. Audiopoints for the top of the base assembly. Three composite pads for the head assemblyThere are three wide Audiopoints for the bass assembly. Three washers to ensure full contact with the wood bass which has threaded 6mm inserts which are not flat to the bottom. A spare wsher is provide for minor leveling to the floor, as the best results are obtained with full contact to the wood bass. This is unlike the current popular feet whe ich mainly connect threw the screw threads. The custom base feet have special long screws to go fully through the 6mm insert. There are also floor protectors of the same brass to go under the points of the feet. These can be used to protect the floor, but also work to shunt the vibrations into thick carpeting. The head assembly for this design was for the original version of the Gradient. For this, three rubber cushions for the tips of the factory needles are carefully removed. Then, adhesive caulk from a home immprovement store is used to glue the carbon pieces over the original holes. The pieces are slanted so that one might have to avoid the wire to the base assembly. If the speaker grill cloth is used, then space need be allowed to attach to the velcro. The end results of you installation will be full clarity in the midrange at all volume levels. The delay to shunt the vibratons of the woofer cabinet adds a natural quality to the bass, just as done for stringed instruments. For ultimate clarity, the head assembly grill cloth should be removed if prying fingers are not a problem. Caution: Always hand turn the 6 mm tap into all 6 holes of the each speaker to insure not damaging the brass screw threads. When working on the speaker, do not place the head speaker against any objects on the floor or table nor the top cover, to avoid damage to either. When the head assembly mod is completed, there will be approximatelly one inch between it and the base assembly. This is a one time limited production with time controlled sales. 02-11-2022
